Health and Safety Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)

1. Purpose

This SOP provides mandatory, step-by-step procedures for managing health incidents, fire emergencies, and natural disasters, ensuring the protection of life and compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act (Chapter 321C).

2. Scope

This procedure applies to all staff, contractors, and visitors in the event of an emergency or incident.

3. First Aid and Medical Incidents

Equipment Use

Only employees trained in the use of fire extinguishers may attempt to extinguish a small, contained fire, provided it is safe to do so.

5. Safe Use of Equipment and Workplace Maintenance

This section ensures that the employer's duty to provide safe equipment and the employee's duty to use it correctly are met.

Ergonomic Setup

6. Hurricane and Natural Disaster Preparedness

This procedure is enacted when the Bahamas Department of Meteorology issues a Hurricane Watch or Warning.
